The Daily Brief

 KU Move-In Day

On Saturday, August 22 we will be welcoming hundreds of new students into the residence halls.  We need your help!  Please take a moment to sign yourself up to help unload cars and welcome students on Move-In Day.  In August you will be emailed an assignment and instructions for one shift, three hours long, to work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Individuals and group members must all sign up individually so that we know how many shirts to order and where to properly assign groups. Interested in helping? Sign up here:  If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Involvement at 610-683-1383 or Thank you in advance for your help to make Move-In Day 2015 a success!

(Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger)

Partly Sunny. Very warm and muggy but a touch less oppressive than the past couple of days as a weak cool front passes and a second more major cold front heads in, ushering in a chance of showers and thunderstorms in spots today. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Light north-west breezes. Even nicer weather coming tomorrow with temperatures back to normal and the humidity gone.

Recent repair to the fire pump controller in Deatrick Hall will necessitate a power shut-down to allow us to reconnect the electric feed to the transformer that powers the fire pump.  The transformer is fed from a circuit that powers the following buildings: Beck Hall, Deatrick Hall and Stratton Administration Building (front section).

The power shut-down is scheduled as follows: Thursday, July 23, 2015 - between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

The shut-down will likely take less than one-hour, but we have allowed the hour in the event problems are encountered.  Emergency generator power will provide power to critical circuits in Beck, Deatrick and Stratton during the shut-down period.  It is recommended that computers or other electronic equipment, in those buildings listed, be shut-down on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2015 to avoid potential damage.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Stephen Helms, director, Environmental Health and Safety

The telephone services team will be performing software upgrades to the telephone system on from 5 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 until 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015.  During this telephone maintenance, there will be intermittent outages of telephone service.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
