Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson ROTC National Hall of Fame

Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, president of KU, was inducted into the United States Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) National Hall of Fame on June 10.  Hawkinson was one of 326 former cadets to enter the hall in its inaugural class.  The induction ceremony was held on Brooks Field at Fort Knox.  A native of Carpentersville, Ill., Hawkinson served in the U.S. Army starting as a 2nd Lieutenant rising to a Captain.  After serving in the Illinois National Guard as a field artillery officer and executive officer for a field artillery battery, he joined the Army as an infantry officer.  He served in Germany as a platoon leader and a weapons platoon leader, and as a public affairs officer.

(Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger)

Another day similar to yesterday with lots of hazy clouds, some sunshine, and mugginess. The temperatures will be higher, however, getting into the low 90s, along with the chance of a shower or thunderstorm anytime, any storm of which could pack a punch in one or two localized areas.

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)
