The Daily Brief

(Click Here for the Central Calendar)

(Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger)

Rain late Thursday and early Friday. Some p.m. clearing Friday likely. Late models paint another round of rain moving in Saturday p.m. and into the nighttime, before tapering early Sunday, only for another round perhaps of some rain later Sunday. Some much needed rain finally coming!

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

July 31, 1877:  Nathan Schaeffer is inaugurated as the third principal of the Keystone State Normal School.  Schaeffer, a graduate of the Maxatawny Seminary and Franklin and Marshall College, serves until 1893 when he becomes the superintendent of public instruction for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  During his inaugural address, Schaeffer warns of the dangers of the temptations of "the vices of life," and the negative effects of allowing public schools to get too large.

The Summer Academy students will be participating in a TASK night coordinated by the National Association of Art Educators (NAEA), a KU student organization, in August.
