The Daily Brief

Kutztown University galleries

Kutztown University has many galleries throughout campus and in town to display the artwork of our impressive community of artists.  In the video above, Karen Stanford, director of university galleries and community outreach, talks about the different places where students can show their work.

Don't forget there are summer art exhibitions in Sharadin through August 18.  The Miller Art Gallery presents "The Best of 2017" featuring select artwork by recent graduates of the art education, crafts, communication design, and fine arts departments. On display in the Atrium Gallery is the "Freshman Foundations Exhibition" featuring select artwork made by first year students in KU's visual arts majors. Exhibitions are open to the public Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

TODAY'S WEATHER

(Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger)

It hasn’t been an overly hot summer so far other than a few strong shots of heat here and there, but the next few days will make up for that a bit with temperatures into the low 90s and a good amount of humidity. A weak boundary could set off some strong thunderstorms this afternoon, so be on the watch for that. Expect about a 0.10” of rain except higher amounts in heavier storms. Light southwest winds, except for higher gusts in any storms.

THE WEEK AHEAD

GENERATOR LOAD TESTING
Our annual generator load testing has been scheduled for the following buildings and dates. These test dates are subject to the weather. Should changes be necessary based on the weather we will make notice as soon as we know the reschedule date.

7/11       Lehigh Hall
7/12       Schaffer
7/13       Boehm
7/14       Beck Hall
7/17       Sharadin Art
7/18       Academic Forum
****Stratton Administration is yet to be determined but will occur on a Saturday

This process will not interrupt the electrical service to the building. The only potential inconvenience may be the noise of the generator, primarily noticeable outside the building. In most interior building locations the noise is not audible or will be very faint. The test usually lasts between 2-4 hours, and the generators will start running about 9-10 a.m. on the designated day.
Will Meeker, director of Campus Services, Facilities

ANNUAL FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM INSPECTIONS
July 10 - 28
Annual fire sprinkler system inspections will occur Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 28.  Service technicians will be inspecting sprinkler system components such as sprinkler heads, piping, valves and fire pumps in our campus buildings equipped with sprinkler systems. For the most part, the inspection process will be transparent, except where system components may exist in common or other occupied spaces requiring the technician to access a valve or device. This work does not require sounding of alarms in the building, but may result in a discharge of water to the outside of the building through sprinkler drains. Thank you for your cooperation while this important inspection task is performed.
Jeffrey LaGamba, CET, assistant director, Environmental Health and Safety
