THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

June 23, 1894: The Keystone State Normal School baseball club leaves campus at 5:30 a.m. via train for a noon game at West Chester. The KSNS team travels in a special car decorated with bunting and the team's name on the side. A scheduling error by the host has the game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., far too late for the KSNS team to return to Kutztown the same day. West Chester agreed to put the team up overnight and then handed Keystone their first loss of the season, 17-5.

Correction:  In yesterday's historical event the current number of attendees of the Kutztown Folk Festival was listed at 25,000.  The correct number is 130,000.  We apologize for the misprint.
