June 16, 2020

Black and white ink sketched image of man sitting in wooden chair in the left of picture. He has shoulder length hair and he is wearing a brimmed hat, glasses and a cloth facial mask. He is holding a sketch pad and sketching with his left hand. Above the man are the words Old Main, with a drawing of the clock tower in a circle to the right. Encompassing the rest of the page is a water color image of a red barn with stone on the right side. There is a tractor positioned in front of the barn to the left. Above the barn is the title, the Wide World of Kutztown, and below are the words, PA German Heritage Center.

Kevin McCloskey, Department of Communication Design, was invited by The Comics Journal to contribute a Cartoonist's Diary for their website. His essay, "The Wide World of Kutztown," is based on his experiences sketching in Kutztown during the pandemic. Five daily episodes appear this week at the website: http://www.tcj.com. McCloskey is retiring this summer, after 30 years teaching illustration at Kutztown University, to devote his time to his children's books.

Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger

The high pressure that has been in control the past several days remains locked in, keeping any precipitation that tries to encroach from the south at bay. Skies will remain fair, humidity low and temperatures in the upper 70s.
