Sport and Recreation Law Association Undergraduate Research Poster 

Alex Plate, Dakota Hirst, and Laurie Segreaves from the Department of Sport Management and Leadership Studies recently participated in the Sport and Recreation Law Association Undergraduate Research Poster Competition in New Orleans. Alex won the competition with his poster "Legal Implications of Injuries in High School Football." The students were under the advisement of Professor Kerri Cebula.

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

March 10, 1949: Dr. Clyde F. Lytle is named dean of instruction at Kutztown State Teachers College. Lytle has been a professor of English at the school since 1922. He is credited with founding the Keystone student newspaper and the Pa. School Press Association. He retires from KSTC in 1956.

RENTAL REGALIA FOR INAUGURATION - DEADLINE EXTENDED
In preparation for President Hawkinson's inauguration, faculty or staff in need of regalia may rent maroon attire through KUSSI at no cost to you. Academic attire is required for individuals participating in the inauguration procession. The deadline to place an order for rental attire has been extended to Friday, March 11, 2016.

Rented attire can be picked up in room 171, McFarland Student Union, starting Monday, April 11, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those that also plan to rent regalia for commencement may keep their rental until spring commencement. If you prefer KUSSI to store your regalia until commencement, you can return it to a KUSSI employee in the faculty robing area after the inauguration ceremony.

WOMEN'S CENTER/GLBTQ RESOURCE CENTER STAFF CHANGE
I would like to thank Mary Borst for her many years of service to the Women's Center and the GLBTQ Resource Center. Mary has been a valuable staff member often going above and beyond. On Monday, March 7, Mary transferred to the Department of Social Work as a Management Tech - our congratulations to her on her promotion. KU STUDENT RECEIVES PASSHE STUDY ABROAD AWARD FOR SPRING 2016
KU student Alexis Carson has received a $2,000 PASSHE Study Abroad Award for her study abroad program at Temple Rome this semester.

Currently, 11 KU students are studying abroad this semester in seven countries and the Semester at Sea program.

STUDENT COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
Application Deadline:  Monday, March 14, 2016
Applications will be accepted from graduating seniors cleared to walk at the spring 2016 Commencement ceremony. 
In order to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

·         be cleared to participate in the spring 2016 commencement ceremony

·         have a grade point average at or above 3.0

·         demonstrated service to the university community and a record of good university citizenship and cooperation

·         demonstrated evidence of meaningful co-curricular involvement

·         be in good disciplinary standing

·         must be available to interview and present your speech (speech need not be memorized)

Finalists will be chosen to participate in an interview process to determine the candidate of choice who will be expected to provide a brief address that communicates the spirit of the day (approximately 3-5 minutes) at the spring 2016 Commencement ceremony.
