Summer is in full force! Hazy sunshine, hot, and humid today (been a long time since we used those words back-to-back, huh?) Chance of a Florida-like shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s. Southwest breezes around 8 mph.
 

 

THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

May 28, 1966:  Johnson Hall is dedicated to the memory of Lillian Elizabeth Johnson '86.  Johnson was an 1886 graduate of the Keystone State Normal School and one of the first critic teachers at KSNS.  She would later be named dean of women.  Johnson was a charter member of the Pa. Association of Deans of Women.  She died in 1957 at the age of 90.

LIBRARY AND LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES
Kutztown University has announced changes to its former Library Science Department in an effort to enhance long-term growth of the program.  The department's new name, Library and Learning Technologies, reflects exciting, new technological advances in the library field. The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) currently accredit the department's programs. In addition, the department is pursuing accreditation by the American Library Association (ALA), which falls in line with overall university initiatives.  The Library and Learning Technologies program is currently accepting student applications at the undergraduate and graduate levels.   In addition, the university is moving toward an increased online presence for delivery of the curriculum.  Read the full press release here.

SULLIVAN QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS
Kutztown University's Emma Sullivan qualified for her second NCAA Championship. Sullivan will compete in the pole vault on May 26 at 2:30 p.m.
