2022 Spring Commencement

More than 1,200 students will be awarded degrees during Kutztown University's spring commencement ceremonies May 13-14, at O'Pake Fieldhouse. Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson, university president, and Dr. Lorin Basden Arnold, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, will preside.  Graduate students will receive their degrees at 5 p.m. Friday, May 13, including 13 doctoral candidates. Paul Walsh, an education major, will serve as the graduate student speaker and Dr. Catherine McGeehan, professor of education, will represent the faculty. Undergraduate students in the Colleges of Education and Liberal Arts and Sciences will graduate at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14. Madison Brzozowski, a special education and secondary English education dual major, will represent the student body and Dr. Georgeos Sirrakos, professor of secondary education, will serve as the faculty speaker. Undergraduate students in the Colleges of Business and Visual and Performing Arts will graduate at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14. Kerolos Akraz, a business administration major, will serve as the student speaker and Dr. Peg Speirs, professor of Art Education, will serve as the faculty speaker. KU will present an honorary doctorate to Richard Wells at Saturday afternoon's ceremony.

Pabon Named New FDI Director

Dr. Amber Pabon was named the new Frederick Douglass director beginning with the fall 2022 semester.  The director collaborates with other offices and all university divisions, encourages equity, diversity and inclusion among faculty, staff and students through activities including facilitation of scholarship opportunities, research activities, topical forums and exhibits, conferences and visiting scholars.  Congratulations Dr. Pabon.

Summer Hours

Summer hours begin today, Monday, May 16 and remain in effect through Friday, Aug. 19, a week before the start of classes. Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a half-hour lunch. Anyone who has a need to maintain the normal academic year hours may submit a request through their supervisory line. Approval for such a request will be at the vice-presidential level and should be communicated to Human Resources.

KU Philosophy Club Meeting

John Feilmeier's Computer Science Thesis Presentation

John Feilmeier, a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science, will present his thesis research 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in 158 Old Main. The university community is invited to this thesis presentation, titled "Automated Discovery and Interpretation of ADA-Compliant Door Placards." Rohrbach Library will operate under the following extended hours for exam week:
- 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6

- 7:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10
