Jonathan Asayag, Master of Social Work alumni conducted a workshop with Dr. FangHsun Wei at the National Association of Social Workers Pennsylvania Chapter Annual Conference. This conference was held in State College, PA on Thursday October 15, 2015. The workshop entitled "Review of Substance Abuse Treatment Outcomes."​
 


  
KU Spirit Day Provost Office


Congratulations to the Provost's Office staff for their display of KU spirit on Friday.  They will hold the Spirit Bear Trophy this week.

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

 
Nov. 1, 1935:  College painter Grover Stein falls from the clock tower while painting it. Stein was using a painter's swing at the top of the tower when a strap broke and sent him down to the roof of Old Main.  Local physician Dr. John Bower was called to the scene and reported Stein to be dazed but otherwise unharmed. 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS


PICHINI TO BE AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE
The Kutztown University Council of Trustees voted unanimously at its meeting Thursday to award an honorary doctor of laws degree to Guido Pichini '74.  Pichini was elected to a fifth consecutive term as chairman of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors in July. Four years ago he became the first State System university alumnus to chair the board that oversees the State System.

Pichini is president of WSK & Associates and its related companies of Wyomissing.   He is a member and former chair of the Council of Trustees at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and the former chair of the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Trustees, the statewide organization that comprises the trustees from all 14 State System universities. Pichini will be presented with the honorary doctorate at Kutztown University's Presidential Inauguration on April 15, 2016.  Honorary degree recipients are selected through an extensive process.   The KU Honorary Degree Committee makes recommendations to the University Senate Executive Board.  The board then votes and forwards the recommendations to the university president. The president brings the recommendations to the KU Council of Trustees.   The recipients are then announced to University Senate.  Click here for the entire news release.

KUTV TO BROADCAST FLEETWOOD, KUTZTOWN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME FRIDAY
KUTV, Kutztown University's television stations, will broadcast the Fleetwood High School Tigers vs. Kutztown High School Cougars football game on Friday, Nov. 6.  The game will be held at Kutztown University's Andre Reed Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.  The live telecast will begin at 6:25 p.m. and will include performances by the marching bands from Fleetwood (pre-game) and Kutztown (halftime), as well as the Cougars pre-game senior player recognition.  Replays can be viewed Saturday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.  The game will be produced by Kutztown University's Electronic Media Department.  Students from both high schools will work with KU faculty and students to produce the live broadcast. The game will be hosted by Matt Santos, director, KU University Relations, and Gregory Bamberger, KU athletic director. KUTV can be viewed on Service Electric Cablevision channel 24 in eastern Berks County; Kutztown's Hometown Utilicom channel 191; and Service Electric channel 266 in the Lehigh Valley.   It can also be viewed worldwide online at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ku-live



ROHRBACH LIBRARY TO OPEN EARLIER
Beginning today, Nov. 2 Rohrbach Library will be opening at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. We are opening earlier to provide students with more time to get last minute tasks done before heading to their 8 a.m. classes.

WORLD PHILOSOPHY DAY TO BRING HARVARD PROFESSOR TO KU
On Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. in Academic Forum room 201 the Kutztown University Department of Philosophy will host their fifth annual World Philosophy Day lecture. In partnership with UNESCO World Philosophy Day, the day is celebrated to promote understanding among cultures from around the world. The event is free and open to the public. In celebration of the fifth year the Department of Philosophy is welcoming Harvard philosopher Dr. Mathias Risse, professor of philosophy and public policy. Risse's lecture, "On the Significance of Humanity's Collective Ownership of the Earth for Immigration," will address issues in global justice involving current immigration crises in the world, as well as a critique of the current state of affairs.  Risse will also give his suggestions for improving global justice for humanity's collective ownership of the earth. 
 


  
PHILOSOPHY CLUB
The KU Philosophy Club will meet next on Thursday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m. in MSU 312.   Professor Joseph Jedwab, Philosophy Department, will speak on:  "I do Believe in Spooks!  The cognitive science of religion and the prima facie rationality of belief in God"
