THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

Oct. 3, 1936:  Kutztown State Teachers College dedicates a new athletic facility, known today as Andre Reed Stadium.  It contained four acres of playing space with facilities for football, hockey, baseball and track.  There are also tennis courts on the south side.  Costs at that time were $142,000.  During the inaugural football game against Shippensburg, "Terrible Terry," a wire-haired terrier who had been adopted as the school's mascot, ran onto the field and stole the ball from the Shippensburg team.
