OCTOBER IS NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION MONTH
Evacuation Procedures
Kutztown University's policy requires evacuation when a fire alarm sounds or you encounter flames or smoke. You are not required or trained to fight the fire. React immediately; never question whether it is real. Know more than one way out. Your primary exit may be blocked by the fire. Close your door and window so the fire doesn't spread. If your door is closed and the fire alarm sounds, feel your door and doorknob to see if it is hot. If smoke is filling up the building, crawl out until the air clears. Smoke contains carbon monoxide and toxic gases. Do not reenter the building to retrieve anything. Material things can be replaced.
