THE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

THIS MONTH IN KU HISTORY

(Historical facts have been compiled from the KU Archives and Special Collections of the Rohrbach Library; the archives of the Keystone; Kutztown Patriot, Allentown Leader and Reading Eagle; and Beacon on the Hill by Dr. Lee Graver.)

 

In September 1936 the Reading and Allentown Transit Company purchase two new busses for use by the college.  Made by the Hahn Motor Company, these busses allowed for athletic equipment and musical instruments to be stored away from the seating area making trips more comfortable for students.

SPORT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM EARNED NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
On behalf of Kutztown University's Department of Sport Management and Leadership Studies, it is with great pleasure to announce that the Kutztown University Sport Management Program earned national/international accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).

Since 2006, the Department of Sport Management and Leadership Studies has pursued the program accreditation. The COSMA peer review team visited Kutztown in April and accreditation was approved during the COSMA Commissioners meeting on September 25. COSMA accreditation is considered the hallmark of excellence in sport management education. Less than fifty of all sport management programs (of approximately 350) are accredited by COSMA.


  
ADAM DEVINE CANCELED
Comedian Adam Devine got a film role and he canceled his performance on campus originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24. Refund information of the purchased tickets will be sent out on Tuesday.


  
HAPPY NATIONAL COFFEE DAY!
Starbucks will be planting 1 million coffee trees in honor of National Coffee Day, as part of their "One Tree for Every Bag," Commitment. Stop by our Bear's Den Starbucks on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and celebrate National Coffee Day with your purchase of any bag of Starbucks coffee you can be a part of the commitment!

CLARINET DUO RECITAL
The Department of Music will present a Clarinet Duo Recital on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m.in the Georgian Room. Dr. Soo Goh, Dr. Michelle Kiec (associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts), and pianist Dr. Maria Asteriadou will perform works by Michael Kibbe, Amilcare Ponchielli, and Gunther Schuller.  Join us for an evening of great duo music on the clarinet. Admission is free.
