Dr. Julia Hovanec Named Creativity Ambassador

The National Art Education Association (NAEA) and Crayola Education are partnering to offer the NAEA–Crayola Creativity Ambassadors Program, providing visual arts education professionals with professional learning, resources, and support to cultivate Creative Leadership Teams within their learning communities. Nearly 200 visual arts educators applied to be selected as Creativity Ambassadors. The newly announced 75 NAEA–Crayola Creativity Ambassadors will be immersed in leadership exercises, using creativity as a reflective practice and catalyst for change. Creativity is an essential skill that prepares students to solve problems, be innovative and make their thinking visible. NAEA–Crayola Creativity Ambassadors will lead and inspire colleagues to leverage creativity as foundational practice in teaching and learning. The timing of this program coincides with NAEA’s 75th anniversary as the professional organization for arts educators and Crayola Education’s launch of the Crayola Creativity Week, a global celebration of creativity. Selection was based on review of the applicants’ resumes and their answers to a series of questions prompting examples of successful approaches to building creative capacity through teaching and leadership in the classroom, school, and community.

Conway to Speak Thursday on Warehousing Development at Berks Alliance Community Forum

Dr. Moira Conway, associate professor, geography, will speak about warehouse development at an upcoming Berks Alliance Community Forum, 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, via Zoom. Register in advance to attend (link below). After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Berks County has emerged as a center of warehousing and distribution due to its accessible location to population centers with available low-cost land. As new warehousing and distribution centers have emerged in the region, along with growing truck traffic to support them, there have been many impacts on the residents of the area. These developments have provided job opportunities, but at the same time, there has been increasing traffic congestion, pollution, changing land uses and loss of agricultural space. In order to understand the impacts of warehousing development, the Conway sisters use GIS analysis to determine the location of warehousing and distribution centers in the county, explore employment trends related to warehouse development, assess traffic impacts created by these centers, quantify how land use has changed and explore population changes in Berks County from 2007-2022.

New World of Non-Alcoholic Beer-KU Senior Scholar Event

Join us for a "Near Beer" tasting event 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 322 McFarland Student Union. For years, non-alcoholic beer required a sacrifice: to lose the buzz, you also had to lose the flavor. But that has changed in recent years, thanks to new technology that lets brewers make beer that tastes great, without the alcohol. Taste five no/low alcohol beers for $10. Register at https://commerce.cashnet.com/KUSRSCHOLARS. The "New World of Non-Alcoholic Beer" colla"brew"tive event is sponsored by Kutztown University Senior Scholars.
