Kutztown University SBDC Partners for Grand Opening of Sweet Confections Cakes in Harrisburg April 30

April 24, 2019

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- First, they were seen on The Food Network, now they are opening at their new location. Sweet Confections Cakes, in conjunction with the Kutztown University Small Business Development Center (KUSBDC), will host a grand opening at noon on Tuesday, April 30, at their new location behind Stephenson's Flowers, Rt. 22 Colonial Park at 4702 Fritchey Street, Harrisburg, PA 17112. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for elected officials, chamber members, and local business personnel.

For more than 25 years, business owners Darmayne and Will Robertson have been creating stunning edible centerpieces and cakes made with all-natural ingredients. With over 30 years of combined experience in sugar artistry, pastry arts, baking, and teaching cake decorating, Sweet Confections Cakes has been voted Harrisburg Magazines Reader's Choice for Wedding Cakes and Specialty Cakes in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, as well as the 2015 winner of Harrisburg Magazines Readers' Choice for Wedding Cakes.

The KUSBDC assisted the Robertson's in developing a business plan and securing an SBA term loan to purchase the building for the new location, as well as an SBA Express Line of Credit to support working capital needs.

"It has been a genuine pleasure to work with the Robertson's," KUSBDC business consultant Martin Brill said. "They are dedicated, focused, hardworking business owners who have developed a reputation for distinctive creative bakery products for a wide variety of occasions. Sweet Confections Cakes worked closely with our consultants to establish their finances and now assist the business with all it needs to officially hold the ribbon cutting and open the doors to their new location."

"I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Darmayne and Will alongside Martin Brill," KUSBDC Technology Commercialization & Strategic Planning Specialist Mark Rentschler stated. "The best thing about my job is to be there to help them acquire the building to expand their business."

The April 30 grand opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony along with press and media. The community is encouraged to join the event and visit the new location.
