KU Chamber Players and Chamber Ensemble to Perform Works of Local Artist April 19

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University Chamber Players and Chamber Ensemble will premier the work of Ava Bloomfield, senior at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 19, at Schaffer Auditorium.
Limited seating is available with masks and social distancing required. The performance will also be live-streamed online.
Bloomfield's “Prelude No.1 for String Orchestra” was her first time writing for strings. It began as a piece for solo piano in her junior year of high school. She worked on creating the first melodic theme and the rest began to take shape from there. In the beginning of 2020, one of her piano teachers at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts premiered the solo piano version at the school's faculty recital. It was the first time Bloomfield was able to hear something she wrote while sitting in the audience.
Bloomfield, 17, has been playing piano for eight years and music has since become a huge part of her life. She started to write “A Bird Song” in October 2020 after hearing pieces like “Èpitaph de Jean Harlow, Op. 164” by Charles Koechlin. This poem tells about the interactions of swallows and the speaker's need for consistent companionship. Her work has also been performed at Allentown Symphony Hall.
In addition to Bloomfield, KU will perform the works of Mozart and Martinu.
