Four Graduate Education Programs Included in 2021 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online Programs

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University has been ranked among Pennsylvania’s best online graduate-level programs with its inclusion in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best Online Master’s in Education Programs. KU was ranked No. 108 of nearly 300 institutions, including seventh in Pennsylvania and fourth among Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities.

The prestigious rankings include four Master of Education programs in KU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and College of Education: art education, IT/digital classroom technology, music education and secondary education specialization in curriculum and instruction.

Art Education

The Kutztown University program can be earned completely online or blended for maximum flexibility. The Master of Education in art education program prepares advocates for the role of visual art in society, engages in critical and expressive response to art and current topics in the field coupled with providing advanced knowledge of curriculum development and instructional processes.

KU's network of support begins the moment students enter the program and continues after graduation. Students will be mentored by professors who are regionally, nationally and internationally recognized artists, educators and scholars. Courses are taught in the evenings, weekends, summers and online for maximum flexibility for those with busy schedules.

IT/Digital Classroom Technology

This is an exciting time for instructional technology professionals. Advances in technology mean the ways we train, teach and learn has undergone rapid transformation, propelling the demand for professionals with e-learning qualifications.

Graduates will be eligible for positions supporting teachers and students at all education levels from elementary through higher education. Opportunities for instructional technology professionals also extend well beyond the formal education environment. You’ll be prepared to implement training programs for businesses, health organizations, government programs or working in instructional design or consulting firms creating custom learning solutions for various clients.

Music Education

With an M.Ed. in music education from KU, you’ll be immersed in the advanced teaching theories and instructional design strategies you need to unlock that potential. The program’s built-in flexibility accommodates working professionals’ busy life schedules. The degree can be completed entirely online or with blended online and on-campus options; begin in fall, spring or summer; part-time or full-time. Your classmates will be dedicated musicians and teachers who have an unquenchable need to keep learning and growing. You’ll graduate with the solidly grounded understanding you need to harness music’s inspirational power in the classroom.

While the M.Ed. in music education is not a teacher-certification program, students can pursue the certification outside their Music curriculum as they continue to progress through the program. Certain courses required for certification must be completed on campus.  Sample career options include music educator, music education specialist, music department chair and arts curriculum specialist.

Secondary Education in Curriculum and Instruction

The specialization in curriculum and instruction is designed for secondary school teachers in all academic disciplines and for other professionals concerned with the education of adolescents and/or adults. In addition to in-depth training in curriculum and instruction, this program offers graduate students the opportunity to pursue advanced study in a variety of academic disciplines. Graduate courses in this specialization are selected from four major areas. There is a 100% online option for the curriculum and instruction program.

Curriculum and instruction is one of six specializations in the Master of Education in secondary education program: biology, English, mathematics, social studies, middle level. These programs are designed to increase awareness of the problems of education in their broad setting, expand the knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and the instructional process, augment professional awareness through research and enhance scholarly growth and personal competency in one's specialized area.
