October 11, 2016

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Nineteen Philadelphia painters are included in an upcoming exhibition at the Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery at Kutztown University. The show runs from Oct.  20 to Nov.  20, 2016.

The gallery will host an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct.  20.

Four of the painters will be giving public lectures about their work. Sarah McEneany will speak on Tuesday, Nov.  1; Celia Reisman will speak on Monday, Nov.  7; Stuart Shils will speak on Monday, Nov.  14 and Jane Irish will speak on Wednesday, Nov.  16. All talks will be held at 6:30 p.m. in room 120 of the Sharadin Art Building at Kutztown University and are free and open to the public.

The show was curated by Kutztown University Painting Professor Mark Mahosky.

"The purpose of this show is to introduce students at Kutztown University, and the community at large, to the high caliber of painting going on in Philadelphia. It is also, by way of the visiting artists associated with this show, to inform them that one-hour south of the University there is a vital, energetic, and welcoming scene waiting to be explored." Mahosky said.

All the artists included live and work in Philadelphia. The artists featured are: Arden Bendler Browning, Charles Burwell, Meghan Cox, Sarah Gamble, Barry Goldberg, Neysa Grassi, Jane Irish, Sarah McEneaney, John Moore, Quentin Morris, Michelle Oosterbahn, Bruce Pollock, Celia Reisman, Stuart Shils, Becky Suss, Jackie Tileston, Isaac Tin Wei Lin, Joan Wadleigh Curran, Justin Webb.

There will be a wide range of work represented from large scale abstraction of Charles Burwell to Becky Suss's painting of a modernist interior.

Mahosky said "I chose some painters whose careers I have been following for three decades and other painters who are relatively young, but all demonstrate a real dedication to their work. Most are represented by galleries in Philadelphia and other cities like New York and San Francisco."

The curator, Mark Mahosky received his undergraduate degree at Temple University's Tyler School of Art in the mid-1980's and has been showing his work with the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia since 1986.

The Miller Gallery is located in the newly renovated Sharadin Arts Building at Kutztown University. The university's art program is renown in the area and produces emerging artists focusing in studio art, art history, design, and arts education.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 12-4pm, and Sunday 2-4pm. Contact Information: For gallery information visit To contact Karen Stanford, Director of University Galleries and Community Outreach, or 484-646-5803.
