Koncsics Named KU Employee of the Month for September

Congratulations to Jean Koncsics, Academic Enrichment, on being named KU Employee of the Month for September 2017.

Congratulations to Jean Koncsics, Academic Enrichment, on being named KU Employee of the Month for September 2017.

Jean's nomination from George Paterno, Academic Affairs manager, reads like this:   "Jean is the administrative assistant and department secretary for a department that is assigned undeclared students and "AT RISK" (jeopardy) students.

Her's is the very definition of a "front line" position; the first to welcome students in person, by phone and often electronically as well.

She performs "triage" daily - meaning, "Is this the office to help the student the most at this time?" She therefore must know the functions of a long list of other offices, and when they are best deployed.

The front desk at Academic Enrichment has a high volume of student contact at times. For example, over 230 students got full schedules and made drop add transactions at our office - and this number does NOT include students being directed to other places they needed to go.

These students are always met with kindness, professionalism, and a sincere interest in them and their education. No doubt this position directly affects student retention by helping at risk students connect to the needed people and services.

She is a big asset to the members of the department, helping with meetings, reports, statistics, searches and other support which aids the entire staff to be more effective.

I feel it is important to recognize the front line employees that are in contact with students directly and frequently because they make such a difference in the student's experience, and therefor change outcomes for the better for the University."

Nominations are collected from students, faculty and staff, and the Employee of the Month is selected by the Human Resources Advisory Council.  A winner will be selected each month and out of the 12 monthly winners one will be selected as Employee of the Year.  The Employee of the Month will receive a plaque, reserved parking and a $100 monetary gift sponsored by President Hawkinson.
