Trustcott to Speak on Social Justice

September 23, 2016

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Dr. Cristal Truscott will be speaking at KU on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium in the McFarland Student Union.  She will speak about her work in theatre and social justice.

Truscott is the founder of Progress Theatre, a Houston-based touring ensemble. The group is compiled of artists committed to using theatre to promote anti-racism engagement and to encourage social consciousness and cultural awareness. Truscott will be speaking on her experiences working with and founding Progress Theatre and her roll in social justice.

Progress Theatre, founded in 2000, has performed to audiences throughout the country. Truscott has branded these performances as Neo-Spirituals, a cappella musicals that use a unique acting and performance methodology developed from African American performance traditions and aesthetics. All of the members of Progress Theatre are trained and experienced in diversity dialogues and group facilitation to create theatre in communities.
