Flannery presented award on stage

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Congratulations to Tim Flannery, head swimming coach, Intercollegiate Athletics, on being named KU Employee of the Year.

Timothy Flannery, head swimming coach, was awarded the 2018 Employee of the Year Award during the KU Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration held Friday, August 24. Flannery, KU Employee of the Month in January 2018, is entering his 23rd season as the head swimming coach.

KU Student Dontez Jolly, who previously nominated Flannery for Employee of the Month, praised Flannery for his dedication to both helping students and the sport of swimming itself.

"He encouraged me and made me want to come back and do it all over again," Jolly said in reference to the coach teaching him to swim.

Flannery has been with the university since September 1996.

"The overall theme of the dialogue of the Human Resources Advisory Council members was how extraordinary it was for Coach Flannery to have taken the time to help a student-athlete who was not one of his own. What he did for Dontez was teach him a skill that he will use the rest of his life; a life-long impact," said Alexis Martin, KU employee relations manager and a non-voting member of the council.

As Employee of the Year, Flannery received a monogrammed JanSport Kutztown University backpack, a $300 monetary award sponsored by President Kenneth S. Hawkinson, an engraved glass and marble award and reserved parking for one year in his preferred parking spot.

2017 Employee of the Year was Sharon Young from Information Technology.
