KU Summer Art Camp 2026

2026 Summer Art Camps at KU!

Join us for a summer filled with creative exploration, art making, and adventure. Each week-long program is open to campers entering grades 1-12 (register for whatever grade they will be in the fall). Each camp is a full day, 9 am-4 pm. Drop off and pick up are in the Atrium Entrance (new addition entrance facing the quad of campus).

We are offering new age group camps for grades 10th, 11th, 12th this year!

Each class is max of 20 students with 3 adult helpers. Class themes are studio and project based, taking advantage of the beautiful art studios in the Sharadin Art Building.  Studio based learning may include painting, printmaking, textile creation, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, photography and printmaking.

Campers are encouraged to wear clothing they can get dirty, bring along a water bottle, a packed lunch and snacks, and plenty of sunscreen for outdoor exploring. We'll break up the day with lots of outdoor time playing games and exploring the buildings and grounds of KU. All classes are taught by certified art teachers and KU art student assistants.

Each week will offer 5 classes by age group (1st&2nd grades), (3rd&4th grades), (5th & 6th grades), (7th, 8th, 9th grades), and *NEW* (10th, 11th, 12th grades).

WEEK 1: JUNE 22-26, 9am-4pm

Entering 1st & 2nd Grade: Outer Space Adventures with Sharron Siddiqi

room 206, max 20 students, $250

Blast off into creativity! Campers will explore galaxies, planets, rockets, and imaginative aliens while experimenting with painting, collage, and drawing. Through exciting space-themed projects, students will learn about color, texture, and design as they create their own out-of-this-world masterpieces. Register for Outer Space Adventures!

Entering 3rd & 4th Grade : Travel Around the World! with Lindsay Ott

room 205, max 20 students, $250

Grab your creative passport and get ready to jet-set across the globe! In this camp, we will create projects inspired by various countries and cultures and discover how they use art to make their mark. From the Americas to Africa, Europe, and Asia, we’ll uncover the beauty of art around the world. We will use various art materials, such as paint, pastels, clay, and ink, to navigate each destination. Whether you’ve made art before or are a first-time explorer, this camp is about finding your voice in our collective art world. Are you ready to make your mark?Register for Travel Around the World!

Entering 5th & 6th Grade : Teeny Tiny Art!  with Olivia Miller

Big imagination meets small-scale creations in this art camp all about miniatures! Campers will dive into the world of tiny art designing miniature sculptures, itty-bitty paintings, mini mixed-media scenes, and even teeny-tiny dioramas. Register for Teeny Tiny Art!

Entering  7th, 8th, 9th Grade : ArtCycling! with Kerri Griffin

Room 201, max 15 students, $275

In this class, we will have fun exploring how to design, engineer and construct our own assemblage sculptures by combining recycled materials and discarded objects. Bring your own random, or cool objects, broken toys (doll heads, anyone?) plastic and cardboard, natural items like seed pods, or anything we can turn into Art! Register for Art Cycling!

Entering  10th, 11th, 12th Grade : Torch It. Forge It. Wear It! with Rhonda Tomel  **NEW AGE GROUP**

Metals Studio,  max 15, $275

Dive into the world of metalsmithing and jewelry design! Learn how to use torches, saws, and hammers to cut, shape, texture, and assemble one-of-a-kind metalwork and more. Everyone leaves with bold, handcrafted wearables and the skills to keep creating. Beginners are welcome–no experience necessary! Register for Torch It, Forge It!

WEEK 2: JUNE 29-JULY 3, 9am-4pm

Entering 1st & 2nd Grade : The Great Art Experiment with Jesse Todero

Campers will dive into a hands-on art adventure filled with paint, clay, collage, printmaking, and more. We'll mix, layer, squish, and experiment to see what each material can do while building skills and exploring along the way. It's all about trying new things, getting a little messy, and having a whole lot of fun! Register for the Great Art Experiment!

Entering 3rd & 4th Grade : Trust the Process with Sam Potylycki

room 205, max 20, $250

This week we’re putting the "perfect" picture aside to focus on the fun of creating in the moment. Campers will experiment with unexpected materials and techniques, from marbling with shaving cream to printing with found objects. By focusing on the "how" instead of the "what," campers will build the confidence to take creative risks, ask "what if?", and discover that the coolest art often happens when you just let go and see what follows! Entering  5th & 6th Grade : Mixed Media Madness with Annie Schnore

Campers will experiment with paint, collage, sculpture, and unexpected textures to create bold, one-of-a-kind artworks. It’s a high-energy art adventure all about mixing, layering, and letting imagination run wild! Register for Mixed Media Madness!

Entering  7th, 8th, 9th Grade : Eco-Craft Clay with Rhonda Tomel 

ceramics Studio, max 15 students, $275

Using hand-building techniques, campers will apply an eco-forward perspective to create useful and sculptural clay pieces inspired by the natural world. We'll construct a variety of functional vessels and decorative garden habitats for both indoor and outdoor use, while learning the basics of practical studio ceramics. Register for Eco-Craft Clay

Entering  10th, 11th,12th Grade : ReWEAR: Art, Fashion & Upcycling Lab with Amanda Seanor  **NEW AGE GROUP**

Got a jean jacket or sweatshirt you have always wanted to decorate? ReWEAR is a hands-on fashion and art studio where we transform clothing into wearable art. Teens are invited to rethink fashion through creativity and sustainability by using techniques like fabric dyeing/painting, weaving, screen printing, beading, and more to transform garments into bold, personal designs. Entering 1st & 2nd Grade : Fairy Tales and Fantasy with Sharron Siddiqi

Step into a world of imagination! In this creative camp, students will design enchanted castles, magical creatures, and illustrations while exploring drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. Young artists will build storytelling skills and bring their own fantasy worlds to life through colorful, hands-on projects. Register for Fairy Tales and Fantasy!

Entering  3rd & 4th Grade : The Art of the Great Outdoors with Sophia Geddio

room 205, max 20, $250

An art studio inspired by being outside! We will spend time exploring the local gardens of KU’s campus, as well as incorporating found natural materials into art making. Campers will have a chance to try a variety of mediums- from printmaking, mosaics, cardboard construction, to self-portraits with the natural materials we gather. This week is all about finding ways to create with the great outdoors! Register for The Art of the Great Outdoors!

Entering  5th & 6th Grade : Manga Character Design with Michael Staniz

In this camp we'll get inspired by Manga style animation,  drafting, sketching, and finalizing designs for our own character. Campers will learn the fundamentals of color theory, shape language, and iterative design. We'll be drawing by hand and using digital skills to make our characters come to life! Entering  7th, 8th, 9th Grade : Wearable Threads with Kathleen Walck

room 203 & 201, max 15, $275

Fiber arts have been around since the dawn of civilization, emerging from all corners of the world to clothe, adorn, and celebrate our bodies. In this camp, we’ll explore various ways that we can embellish and accessorize our wardrobes using felting, stitching, dyeing, printing, and more. We’ll also spend time learning about the ways other cultures have used fiber arts to accentuate the human form. Register for Wearable Threads!

Entering  10th, 11th, 12th Grade : Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel with Jeff Dietrich **NEW AGE GROUP**

Ceramics Studio, max 15, $275

The term "throwing" comes from an old English word for twisting or turning, not actually flinging clay! Instead, we will learn and practice techniques for shaping clay on a spinning potter's wheel to create symmetrical vessels like bowls, mugs, and vases.  REFUND AND BEHAVIOR POLICY:

KU ART CAMP REFUND POLICY FOR ALL GRADES:

  •  cancellations 30 days prior to day one of camp will receive a full refund
  •  cancellation one week prior will receive 50% refund
  •  no refunds for cancellations one week before or during the week
  •  no refunds if campers do not like the class or if campers are removed for behavioral issues (see behavior policy below)
  •  no refunds can be given if a child has to miss camp for illness

BEHAVIOR POLICY:

At KU Art Camp, we work with expensive materials, utilize specialized equipment, and sometimes use dangerous tools.

 WILL NOT TOLERATE:

  •  behavior that disrupts the classroom
  •  abuse of equipment or materials
  •  aggressive behavior to other campers or teachers
  •  campers can be removed from camp at any time at the discretion of the teacher and the class will not be refunded.

 If your camper has behavior issues PLEASE NOTE that we do not have resources available for one-on-one attention.

 If your child requires medication for behavior issues, please contact us before signing up your child.

WE HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON DISRUPTIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR.

We want all our campers set up to succeed, so please contact us directly if you have concerns before signing your camper up for a class.

Classrooms are PHONE FREE ZONES. Students will be asked to put their phones in a basket and only to be checked at break times.
