Composition Coordinator

Call for Applications

The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs seeks to hire one Composition Coordinator for a two-year term beginning in August 2024. The position is supported through a 3-credit course release in both fall and spring semesters.  

Eligibility: The Composition Coordinator (CC) at Kutztown University is a tenured or tenure-track professor with at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience at the institution.  

Required Qualifications:  

  • A record of innovative, inclusive teaching, including the teaching of writing/rhetoric. 
  • An advanced degree in writing studies or a related field. 
  • Sound knowledge of, and experience implementing, high-impact teaching practices (Kuh). 
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a growth mindset and sense of belonging in gateway/general education courses. 
  • Outstanding communication skills—oral, written, and active listening. 
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:  

  • Ensure that the composition curriculum stays current by providing staff and faculty new resources on composition and rhetoric trends, such as the use of AI or discipline-specific inclusive teaching practices.  
  • Collaborate with General Education leadership on campus (GEPAC, Office of Assessment, etc.) to assess the composition sequence in the core curriculum. 
  • Maintain, in coordination with the Vice President for Accreditation, Assessment and Curriculum, the composition webpages on the GE site. 
  • Update the resources housed in the Comp Conversation D2L site.  
  • Work with the Center for Engaged Learning to provide faculty professional learning opportunities for composition faculty on best practices in writing instructions. These learning opportunities may be delivered face-to-face or via asynchronous online modules.  
  • Serve as ex-officio on the General Education Program and Assessment Committee. 
  • Maintain 3 open consultation hours per week. 

The Composition Coordinator reports to the Vice President for Accreditation, Assessment and Curriculum and is appointed by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The term of the appointment is two years, with the possibility of additional terms upon the approval of the Provost.
