The award is presented annually to a faculty member who has demonstrated superlative teaching skills and service to the university.

The John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning recognizes an early career faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding work.

Kutztown University has been included in the regional list in 24 consecutive rankings, dating back to the 2004 rankings released in August 2003.

Schlicher has been with the university since 1999.
