Commission on Human Diversity Social Justice Award

The Kutztown University Commission on Human Diversity is pleased to announce
the Commission on Human Diversity Social Justice Student Award. The awards
recognize Kutztown University students who embody an ongoing commitment to
critical social justice through campus and community activities such as: Areas of
study and research, writing, performance, artmaking and service.
Aligned with the mission of the commission, the students work must be related to
various dimensions of multiculturalism, diversity, social justice, inclusion and
equity and accessibility with in relationship to any facet of human diversity,
including race/ethnicity, social class, sexuality, gender, ability, language, religion,
and geography.

  • Eligibility for the Award

    • Any undergraduate/graduate full or part time student
    • A student with a good academic standing
    • Any major on campus

  • Essay Guidelines

    Candidates should submit a 300-500 word essay demonstrating the following:

    A commitment to critical social justice in word and action through campus
    and community activities such as: Areas of study and research, writing,
    performance, artmaking and service.

  • Applications are due by: May 5th, 2020

    Students will be honored at the beginning of the fall 2020 semester and
    presented with a certificate and $100 gift certificate to the KU bookstore.
    Up to three students will be awarded.

Comission Description

Pursues the goal of having a university community where all members honor each other's differences. It sets priorities, monitors changes and educates the community in order to create an environment in which all members will receive proper recognition, encouragement and support. Meetings: monthly. Terms: 2 years. Appointees: 11 of the 27 members

    Each spring, the annual conference of Kutztown University's Commission on Human Diversity unites activists, scholars, students & the community for talks. The Commission's mission: advocating for the the rights and dignity of all people, all the time.
