Criminal Justice Internships at KU

CRJ 390: Internship in Criminal Justice

Gaining practical experience and developing professional relationships is extremely important for preparing students to begin their careers upon graduation, and students are strongly encouraged to pursue internships while completing their degree at Kutztown.

Students who have obtained an internship may be eligible to enroll in CRJ 390 to receive credits toward their degree while working in the field. Beginning in fall 2024, students may either complete a 200-hour internship to receive six course credits or complete a 100-hour internship to receive three course credits. Students may also complete two separate 100-hour internships a total of six course credits.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to enroll in CRJ 390, students must have:

  • Earned 60 credit hours
  • Completed at least 18 credit hours of criminal justice courses
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5

To enroll in CRJ 390, contact the department's internship coordinator, Dr. Ko-Hsin Hsu at hsu@kutztown.edu.

Course Requirements

During the course of the internship, students must complete the required number of hours with the agency and a variety of writing assignments. These assignments include daily journals, evaluations by the student's agency supervisor, and a final reflection paper. Each student is assigned to a full-time faculty member for guidance on the completion of each of these assignments, which can be submitted remotely.

Agencies

Kutztown students have obtained positions with many different local, state, and federal agencies. You will need to actively search for these opportunities to find internship programs that are currently available, but the following list includes agencies that have taken on Kutztown students as interns. This is not, however, an exhaustive list of every internship opportunity. Even if the website of an agency does not describe an internship program, you should contact the agency and ask whether or not they accept interns.
