Community College Transfer Pathways

Kutztown University offers clear, affordable pathways for students transferring from community colleges. Whether you are completing an associate degree in an aligned program (e.g., AA in Business Administration to BS in Business Administration), participating in a Dual Admissions partnership, or joining a KU program after completing some credits at a community college, we will help you make the most of the credits you have earned.

Planning early with your community college advisor and transfer admissions counselor can help you stay on the most direct path to your bachelor’s degree.

Transfer with an Aligned Associate Degree

Kutztown University accepts eligible associate degrees aligned with statewide standards established through Pennsylvania’s Transfer and Articulation Oversight Committee, commonly known as TAOC.

If you complete an eligible Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in a program that parallels your intended KU bachelor’s degree:

  • You will transfer with junior standing
  • Your associate degree will satisfy KU’s general education requirements, subject to limited exceptions
  • You will not be required to complete more than 60 additional credits toward a standard 120-credit bachelor’s degree
  • Your credits will be applied toward your degree as a complete transfer pathway—not simply evaluated one course at a time

This means eligible students who transfer at least 60 credits into a parallel program can complete the bachelor’s degree within 120 total credits.

Programs governed by accreditation, certification or licensure requirements may require additional credits. Students must also meet KU’s admission, major, grade, academic-standing and graduation-residency requirements. Repeating a course because a required grade was not earned may increase the total number of credits needed.

Dual Admissions Partnerships

Dual Admissions allows you to plan your transfer to Kutztown while completing your associate degree at a participating community college. At some colleges, this may be called a Letter of Intent.

Students must enroll in Dual Admissions before completing the maximum number of community college credits established by their college. Benefits may include:

  • Waived KU application fee
  • Junior standing after receipt and review of the final transcript
  • Merit scholarships based on GPA
  • A Transfer Housing Award for eligible students who live on campus
  • Personalized transfer planning and advising
