Learning Goals and Outcomes

Sport Management Program Learning Goals

1. Acquisition of fundamental concepts in specific, sport management core content areas.

2. Development of a knowledge of ethics and professional obligations including diversity and global awareness.

3. Development of "higher order learning skills" such as critical thinking, creative problem-solving, oral and written communication skills and quantitative analysis.

4. Development of interpersonal skills requisite for successful professional collaboration.

5. Development of "technological literacy" with materials/resources supporting managerial communication, data-acquisition and organizational decision-making.  

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes  

1. Students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles requisite for professional success in the sport management profession. These include, but are not limited to, management theories, sport law, sport marketing, sport communication, operations management, accounting practices, sport finance and sport governance.      

2. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply an understanding of ethics to the professional arena.

3. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to think critically, to creatively problem-solve, and to utilize quantitative analysis.

4. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability, to communicate effectively in oral and written form and to work collaboratively.

5. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to use "technology" effectively in the application of sport management practice.

6. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to articulate the global scope of sport and recognize diversity issues in sport management.
