Today's schools need educators who are prepared to teach and support increasingly diverse learners. The Inclusive Education Minor equips future teachers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create inclusive learning environments and support learners with a wide range of strengths and needs.

Through coursework and field experiences, students develop expertise in:

inclusive practices
accessibility and accommodations
evidence-based instruction

collaboration with families and professionals
legal frameworks of special education

These experiences strengthen graduates' preparation for today's schools and build valuable skills that apply to a wide range of educational and community settings.

Who Should Consider the Inclusive Education Minor?

While designed to complement teacher preparation programs, the minor is also open to students from other majors interested in supporting individuals with disabilities. The capstone internship may be completed in a variety of settings, including schools, healthcare and rehabilitation organizations, nonprofit and community agencies, advocacy organizations, and programs serving children and adults.

The Inclusive Education Minor is available to all non-Special Education majors. Completion of the minor does not lead to Special Education instructional certification.

  - SPEE 381 Internship in Special Education and Disability Studies
- Elective Courses A (Choose one):
  - SPEE 201 Cognitive Development of Diverse Learners in a Standards Aligned System or EDUC 101 Teaching Pre-K-8: An Exploration and Investigation
- Elective Courses B (Choose three):
  - SPEE 314 Effective Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities in Inclusive Settings
  - SPEE 313 Making Content Area Instruction Accessible for Students with Disabilities
  - SPEE 223 Augmentative and Alternative Communication to Support Students with Disabilities
  - SPEE 333 Assistive Technology for Individuals with Visual Impairments
  - SPEE 327 Transition, Self Determination, and Self advocacy for Adolescents and Adults
  - SPEE 330 Teaching Students with Low Incidence Disabilities
  - SPEE 328 Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports
  - SPEE 316 Literacy Development and instruction in Core and Intervention Areas
