Student Organizations

The Department of Modern Language Studies boasts several successful student organizations that students have the opportunity to become a part of. The clubs and their brief descriptions can be found below:

GSO, German Students Organization

The German Students Organization (GSO), welcomes anyone with interest in German, Austrian and Swiss language and culture. No language experience is required to join. You can learn or practice your German skills with us at our unique cultural events!

OLA, Organization for Latino Awareness
OLA, Organization for Latino Awareness is a great place to meet other students who share an interest in Spanish Language and Hispanic culture!

We meet regularly throughout the semester to plan activities on campus which promote Hispanic culture, and to organize social events with a Hispanic theme, such as Conversacion y Comida, trips to N.Y.C. to see plays performed in Spanish, or dinners to local Hispanic restaurants. We also teach an after-school Spanish program to local children!

Please stop by our bulletin board outside the LRC (DF109) to check out meeting dates and times. If you have any questions about involvement in the organization, please contact faculty advisors Dr. Núñez (

SDP, Sigma Delta Pi Honors Society
The National Collegiate Hispanic Honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence while providing leadership experience. It is the only honor society devoted exclusively to students of Spanish in four-year colleges and universities. It is also the largest foreign-language honor society in existence. The society is proud to sponsor a local chapter, UPSILON CHI, here at Kutztown University. You can also contact the faculty advisor of our local chapter here at KU: Dr. Christine Coleman Nunez.
