Effective fall 2019, Dr. Cardozo is a tenured Associate Professor of Geography.  Congratulations Mario on these well-earned achievements!

During the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) held the week of April 1, 2019, Dr. Le Bossé was elected as Vice-Chair of the European Specialty Group of the AAG.  The position is for two years, following which Dr. Le Bossé will become Chair.

A Map for All Seasons

A map created by Dr. Richard S. Courtney depicting the features and trails of the Borough of Kutztown's North Park is shown here in its kiosk.  The map was created at the request of the Kutztown Environmental Advisory Commission (KEAC). 

Robert Ziegenfus retires
Dr. Robert C. Ziegenfus Retires
After 34 years of service to KU, Dr. Robert C. Ziegenfus retired. Bob leaves behind an exemplary track record of scholarly work, conference presentations, and successful alumni. A retirement celebration was held for Bob on April 26, 2016 in the Graduate Center rotunda. Many current students, faculty, administrators, and alumni came to celebrate with Bob.  We wish Bob all the best in his well-deserved retirement.

As part of the sesquicentennial celebration of Kutztown University, alumni were encouraged to submit stories as to how KU faculty were difference makers in their lives. Mr. West has the honor of being put forward as a difference-maker to Hope Rothermel (class of 2009).

Journal of Cultural Geography

Dr. Steven M. Schnell, past editor of The Geographical Bulletin, has been selected as the new editor of the Journal of Cultural Geography, a nationally and internationally recognized publication.

A Paddler's Guide to the Schuylkill River Water Trail: Schuylhaven to Philadelphia

Dr. Richard S. Courtney had 16 customized DEM shaded relief maps published as background images in A Paddler's Guide to the Schuylkill River Water Trail: Schuylkill Haven to Philadelphia.  The Guide is available from the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area web site.

As part of the sesquicentennial celebration of Kutztown University, alumni were encouraged to submit stories as to how KU faculty or staff were difference makers in their lives.  Mrs. Dorothy Siravo, Department Secretary, has the honor of being put forward as a difference-maker by Alysha Kane (class of 2014). 

The Europeans book

Dr. Mathias J. Le Bossé co-authored the second edition of The Europeans: A Geography of People, Culture, and Environment with Robert C. Ostergren of The University of Wisconsin-Madison. The book has been hailed as "A superb introduction to European geography..." and "Well written and admirably comprehensive..." by book reviewers. The book was published in 2011 by the Guilford Press.  Dr. Le Bossé expects to soon begin working on the third edition.

Dr. Richard Crooker

Dr. Richard A. Crooker Retires
After 30 years of dedicated service to the Kutztown University Department of Geography, Dr. Crooker retired following the conclusion of the Spring 2015 semester. In his retirement, Dr. Crooker plans to continue to publish scholarly research adding to his already outstanding list of publications. Dr. Crooker also looks forward to spending time with his grandson, and at the beach. Congratulations Dr. Crooker on your well-earned retirement!

Birds of the Lehigh Valley and Vicinity book

Dr. Richard S. Courtney produced 18 color maps for the second edition of  Birds of the Lehigh Valley and Vicinity by Saenger, Malt, and Crilley.  The book is available for purchase through the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society website and at many local bookstores.

The Colonial Caribbean book

Dr. Richard S. Courtney produced 16 maps for publication in The Colonial Caribbean: Landscapes of Power in the Plantation System authored by James A. Delle, formerly chair of the Kutztown University Department of Anthropology and Sociology.

Dr. Robert N. martin

Dr. Robert N. Martin Retires
After 30 and one-half years at KU, Dr. Robert N. Martin retired at the end of the Spring 2014 semester. He does so after establishing an enviable track record of scholarly work, conference presentations, and successful alumni. A big send off for Bob was held in the lobby area of the Graduate Center on May 2. Many current students, faculty and administrators, and alumni came to pay tribute to Bob. We wish Bob Martin all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
