First Gen at KU
National First Gen Day is Sunday, November 8th!
In recognition of this special day, we are hosting a celebration on Monday, November 9th! Join us from 10am-1pm in front of the Rohrbach Library for a First Generation celebration full of music, free giveaways, mentorship and FUN!
Take a picture of yourself in front of the First Generation lawn display and enter it to win a raffle! If 30 students submit a picture, the winner will receive a KU fleece blanket and if over 100 students enter, the winner will receive a pair of Apple AirPods. Not on campus? No worries! You can still participate in the raffle by taking a Zoom photo in front of a custom First Gen Proud background (download available below!).
Are you a First Gen administrator, faculty or staff? We have something for you too! If you emailed us and said you were first gen you will be entered into a raffle to win a beautiful gift basket from the Bagel Bar! Included with the basket will be special merchandise, a gift card and a bagel bundle to supply your office with a huge breakfast compliments of Bagel Bar!
Stay tuned for more information about the event! We are looking forward to celebrating with you!
First Generation Students at Kutztown University
Two Kutztown University first-gen students give advice to other first-gen students on what to know and how to best prepare for college.
A First Generation College Student (FGCS) is a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree. This means that you are the first in your family to attend a four-year college/university. Being a first-generation student means many things, including getting to create a legacy to live on in your family. Being first is something to take pride in and celebrate.
While at KU, it is important to take advantage of the Resources here on campus. If college language is new to you, taking a look at the KU Glossary will be extremely helpful as well.
TRIO Support Services
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program that assists students in reaching their post-secondary academic goals.
