Kutztown University’s English as a Second Language PK-12 Program Specialist Certification prepares current educators to help English learners thrive in culturally and linguistically diverse schools. This 15-credit certification program is completed primarily online and includes 60 hours of in-person fieldwork, allowing candidates to apply what they learn in real classroom settings.
Through coursework in language acquisition, culture and learning, language proficiency assessment, and ESL instructional practice, candidates develop the skills to create accessible, engaging learning experiences for students of all language backgrounds.

Educators with ESL certification support students in developing English proficiency, accessing academic content, and succeeding in school through assessment, instructional support, and collaboration with families and colleagues.
Yes. Candidates must hold an active PA Instructional I or II certificate in order to complete this program and earn ESL PK-12 Program Specialist Certification.
