English Advisory Panel
In 2016, the department formed an English Advisory Panel, which consists of working professionals with backgrounds in English who can lend advice to our students about a variety of career choices. The panel serves as a valuable resource as the English Department continues to pursue internship opportunities for students and seeks input on how changes to our curriculum connect to real world possibilities.
Morgan Bayer graduated from Kutztown in 2023, majoring in Professional Writing with a minor in Public Relations. She currently works as an assistant editor for MJH Life Sciences in New Jersey. MJH is a communication platform informing medical personnel on medical news. Her department informs community oncologists about clinical oncology trials and treatments, which includes reportage on clinical trials and converting findings into journalistic articles for print and web publication.
Molly Bilinski is a 2014 graduate of Kutztown University, where she majored in English. She also earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Wilkes University. A journalist with a decade of experience in Pennsylvania and New Jersey newsrooms, Molly currently writes on the environment beat for LehighValleyNews.com. She was the first place winner of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association’s 2022 Diversity Portfolio and the third place winner of the 2022 Lancaster Story Slam: Hippocamp Edition.
Lisa Mitchell graduated from KU in 2001 with a major in Professional Writing and minors in Women’s Studies and Literature. This well-rounded education included courses in creative writing, journalism, magazine writing, and desktop publishing, as well as internships in the Women’s Center, University Relations and the completion of a work study session at the Writing Center. After graduation, Lisa wrote for numerous weekly newspapers in Berks and Lehigh counties. Currently, she is managing editor for Berks-Mont Newspapers and editor of Kutztown Area Patriot, Hamburg Area Item and Tri County Record.
Joanne Rosa graduated from Kutztown University in 2014 with a major in English Literature and minor in International Studies. She is currently a producer for ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir,” the most-watched newscast in America, with a focus on visual reporting for the show's social and digital platforms. Joanne is also a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award, best newscast, for “World News Tonight with David Muir: Live from the Ukrainian Border.” Prior to her role with ABC's evening news broadcast, Joanne worked with the digital team of ABC’s “The View" for five years, and held multiple positions over a four year span for “The Wendy Williams Show.”
Evan Santos is a 2023 graduate of Kutztown University's English Department where he earned a B.S. in Public Relations while also completing minors in the department in professional writing and WGS. While at KU, he was a member of the Honors Program, served as Student Trustee, and held multiple on-campus jobs. Evan was able to obtain multiple internships with NBCUniversal during his time as a student which ultimately led him to his current full-time role as Coordinator of Olympic Operations with NBC Sports in Stamford, CT.
Christina J. Steffy has been a freelance writer and editor for nearly 15 years, and she spent many years as a writing tutor and adjunct writing faculty member at surrounding colleges. She is also the director of institutional assessment, accreditation, and compliance at Alvernia University. Christina has undergraduate degrees in English/professional writing and in speech communications from Kutztown University, a master’s degree in library and information science from Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in professional and digital media writing from East Stroudsburg University. She is currently completing a PhD Strategic Leadership and Administrative Studies at Marywood University.
Justin Sweitzer graduated from Kutztown University in 2018 with a major in English/Professional Writing and minors in Public Relations and Digital Communication & New Media. During his time at KU, Justin was editor-in-chief of The Keystone Newspaper, worked at the Kutztown University Writing Center and interned at the Kutztown-based Strunk Media Group. After graduation, Justin moved to Harrisburg to cover Pennsylvania state government. He is currently managing editor for City & State PA, a print magazine and website focused on Pennsylvania politics, government and community issues.
