Music Education (Post-Bacc.)

Post-Baccalaureate Certification

The Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Education offers a pathway for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in Music to apply for K-12 Music Education Teacher Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

Coursework covers topics in music education issues and trends, instructional design, special education, English as a second language, elementary, choral, and instrumental methods, field experience, and culminates in a clinical experience.

This program is offered in a blended format. Fifteen credits are offered online, nine credits are offered on campus, and seven credits are clinical experiences in a K-12 school.

Depending on a student’s prior learning, additional courses may be required to meet PDE certification requirements. Students are assessed prior to enrolling in the first course, and they are notified of any additional requirements.

Students may simultaneously work towards both the K-12 music certification and the M.Ed. in Music Education.

Application Requirements:

  • Application, transcripts from all universities, resume, and one letter of recommendation.
