Music Education

Master of Education

Are you ready to start blending your passion for music with your enthusiasm for inspiring young people? Research shows that professionally-guided musical training develops young students’ brain areas related to language and reasoning. With an M.Ed. in Music Education from KU, you’ll be immersed in the advanced teaching theories and instructional design strategies you need to unlock that potential.

The program’s built-in flexibility accommodates working professionals’ busy life schedules. The degree can be completed entirely online or with blended online and on-campus options; begin in fall, spring, or summer; part-time or full-time. Your classmates will be dedicated musicians and teachers who have an unquenchable need to keep learning and growing. You’ll graduate with the solidly grounded understanding you need to harness music’s inspirational power in the classroom.

While the M.Ed. in Music Education is not a teacher-certification program, students can pursue the certification outside their Music curriculum as they continue to progress through the program. Certain courses required for certification must be completed on campus.
