Dr. Tim Butler

Tim Butler is the Associate Director of the Kutztown University Bands. He is the Director of the KU Marching Unit, and teaches courses related to Music Education and Composition. As the department's Recruitment Coordinator, Dr. Butler is the primary contact for prospective students interested in earning a music degree at Kutztown.

Dr. Butler recently received his Ph.D. in Music Education from the Pennsylvania State University, where he worked primarily with the Penn State Blue Band and Pride of the Lions Pep Band. His dissertation and ongoing research examines students’ leadership development through music, as well as student motivation and music teacher education.

Dr. Butler earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the Ohio State University and a Master’s degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. In the interim, he taught grade 5-12 band at Holgate Local Schools in northwest Ohio.
