Brian James Myer is a Puerto Rican-American baritone, educator, and advocate whose career spans opera, recital, chamber music, and contemporary works. Praised for his “beautiful, clear-toned singing” (San Francisco Chronicle), he has appeared with companies including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Atlanta Opera, Bard Summerscape, Opera San José, Florida Grand Opera, and Opera Delaware, as well as in recital with Lyric Fest, Brooklyn Art Song Society, and the New York Festival of Song. His repertoire includes roles such as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Dandini (La Cenerentola), and Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), alongside work in new operas including The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, Dear Erich, Stonewall and Llantos 1492.
An avid educator, Myer maintains a vibrant voice studio of all ages, fostering technical mastery, musical curiosity, and artistic individuality in his students. He draws on his wide-ranging professional experience to prepare young singers for careers on stage, in the classroom, and across the arts.
In addition to performing and teaching, Myer serves on the Board of Governors and Pennsylvania Area Committee of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), where he advocates for equity, transparency, and sustainable careers in the performing arts. He earned a Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
