Inauguration
The inauguration of Kutztown University's 13th president, Dr. Philip Cavalier, is Friday, April 10. Tickets are now available for students to attend the 2 p.m. ceremony. Students must log in/create an account to access tickets on the KU ticketing website. Tickets will not appear if students do not log in.Student Showcase
The Student Showcase, 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, is a featured part of President Cavalier's inauguration and will feature highlights from various departments and programs across each of the five colleges – Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, University College – and various student clubs and organizations. Participants are encouraged to spend the evening on campus, moving between the Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research, Boehm Science Building, Sharadin Art Building, McFarland Student Union and Planetarium to see work by students and enjoy light refreshments along the way. Program and department highlights will include research poster presentations, artworks, musical ensembles and performances. Pick up a map from various volunteers located outside of the buildings to learn more about all the featured work. Look for sandwich boards and yard signs, directing you to the various buildings featuring student work. Registration is not required.President's Newsletter

Supporting Students with Disabilities During Final Exams
As Kutztown University approaches final exam season, the Disability Services Office (DSO) continues to support students with disabilities through academic accommodations and accessibility resources. Students registered with the DSO may receive accommodations such as extended testing time, reduced-distraction testing environments, or assistive technology during exams. Families can support their students by encouraging early planning, consistent communication with faculty and use of campus resources. The DSO Testing Center works closely with faculty to ensure that approved accommodations are implemented appropriately during the exam period. Students who have questions about their accommodations, or who believe they may benefit from disability-related support, are encouraged to contact the Disability Services Office at DSO@kutztown.edu.University Writing Center

Education students at Kutztown University are encouraged to apply for the Grow PA Scholarship Grant Program for the 2026-27 academic year. Administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), the program provides up to $5,000 per year for students preparing for in-demand careers in Pennsylvania, including teaching. To retain the grant as a scholarship, recipients must complete an eligible degree program, secure employment in an approved in-demand occupation within one year of graduation and work in Pennsylvania for one year for each year the grant is received. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For eligibility requirements and application details, visit the Grow PA program website or contact PHEAA. Transferring to a new university can feel overwhelming, but at Kutztown University, transfer students have a dedicated resource to guide them every step of the way. Briana Tyler, Coordinator for Student Success and Transfer Engagement, works one-on-one with transfer students to help them navigate their transition to KU, understand university policies and stay on track toward their academic goals. Tyler supports both current KU students and those planning to transfer to KU. At Kutztown University, every new student is assigned a dedicated Student Success Navigator to provide personalized guidance and support. Navigators work alongside academic advisors to ensure a smooth and successful college experience. Once your student’s Advanced Registration Deposit (ARD) is processed, they can access their Student Success Navigator through Starfish using their KU student email and password. Encourage your student to reach out in these situations if they have a question, encounter an issue or obstacle, are facing a personal challenge, have a hold on their account, or are unsure who to contact. Navigators know the ins and outs of KU and can point students in the right direction. No matter the concern, help is just a conversation away. Encourage your student to take advantage of this free resource and invest a little time in learning that supports their academic journey and future career goals.Sport Management Students Achieve Top 20 Finish and Multiple Individual Honors at the National Collegiate Sports Sales Competition
Led by Jayden Kim (sport management), a team of senior students (Braden Neeson, Asher Cooper, Kyle Seiz and Aidan Hoy) finished among the top 20 schools at a recent sales competition, demonstrating strong performance and teamwork throughout the event. Several students also earned individual recognition. Cooper secured second place in the Pillar Power competition, showcasing exceptional sales and communication skills. Erick Acosta (junior) placed sixth in the Speed Sell Challenge, highlighting his ability to deliver a compelling sales pitch under time pressure. Sawyer Carlton achieved eighth place in the Quantum Quiz competition; notably, Carlton is a freshman, making this accomplishment especially impressive among more experienced competitors. The competition brought together students from multiple schools to test their abilities in professional sales scenarios and industry knowledge.KU Bears Grant Recipient Andrew Batista to Present Research at Undergraduate Research at the Capitol Pennsylvania
Andrew Batista, a recipient of the KU Bears Grant, has been selected to present his research, "What Makes CSR Messages Effective? The Roles of Clarity and Perceived Fit,” at Undergraduate Research at the State Capitol in Harrisburg, Pa. This prestigious educational event brings together undergraduate students from colleges and universities across the commonwealth to showcase their research to Pennsylvania’s key decision-makers. Under the guidance of advisors, Soojin Kim and Jayden Kim (sport management), Batista will spend the day at the Pennsylvania Capitol Building, presenting his work, exchanging ideas with students from other institutions and discussing his research with policymakers. He will also engage directly with members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate, representing Kutztown University among outstanding undergraduate researchers from across the state.Clinical Education Hosts Orientation for Spring Student Teachers
The Office of Clinical Education and Partnerships in the College of Education recently hosted an orientation for student teachers beginning their spring semester clinical placements. The session was led by Dr. Tracy Driehaus, who provided an overview of expectations, resources and best practices to help candidates prepare for a successful student-teaching experience. The orientation also featured an interactive presentation from Dylan Frendt, student liaison for the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), who discussed how the organization supports teacher candidates and amplifies their voices as they enter the profession. The event helped prepare future educators for this important stage of their professional journey.Associate Dean Welcomes Art Educators at National Art Education Conference in Chicago
Dr. Amy Pfeiler-Wunder (College of Visual and Performing Arts) welcomed more than 5,000 attendees at the National Art Education Conference Second General Session, featuring Liz Flores, a painter and muralist based in Chicago. Pfeiler-Wunder serves as the President-Elect on the Board of Directors of the National Art Education Association which serves more than 15,0000 K-12 visual art and media art educators, museum educators, supervisors and administrators of the arts, and higher education members. In her role as President-Elect, she chairs the Professional Materials Committee which supports the publication materials for the organization along with serving on the executive finance committee. She will begin serving as president of the organization in March 2027.Highlights from the Miller Gallery
The Miller Gallery in the Sharadin Arts Building will be highlighting the artwork made by all the graduating students in Animated Arts, Art, Art Education and Communication Design. These are juried exhibitions and are a great showcase of their four years of hard work and dedication to their concentrations. All events and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Broadway's Cheyenne Jackson and Jazz Musician Sean Jones at KU Presents!
Cheyenne Jackson, who has proven his versatility in Broadway shows, films and television, will tell his unlikely back story in a cabaret performance 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, Schaeffer Auditorium. Along with a four-piece ensemble, he will bring this original one-man show, “An Evening with Cheyenne Jackson,” fresh from its premiere at Carnegie Hall in New York City.Trumpeter, band leader, composer and musical chameleon, Sean Jones, currently chairs Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory and is artistic director of Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz Ensemble. The internationally recognized educator will take the Schaeffer stage 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15. In celebration of Kutztown University’s strong jazz program, part of the performance will include a collaboration between Jones’ ensemble and KU student performers. Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research
We are honored to share the completion of the Clair Omar Musser Headstone Project at the Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research. For nearly 40 years, Musser, one of the most important figures in the history of percussion, rested without a marked grave. Through this project, we have been able to properly recognize his legacy and the lasting impact he has had on generations of musicians. It is a meaningful moment for our community and a chance to reflect on the rich history in which our students share. To celebrate, we are excited to welcome renowned jazz vibraphonist, Gary Burton, for a special one-hour seminar for students in the music department. An eight-time Grammy Award winner, Burton will share stories and insights on the history of jazz vibraphone, offering students a rare opportunity to learn from one of the true legends of the field. Burton's seminar is 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, Wells-Rapp Center, followed by a concert with Escape Ten Duo at 6:30 p.m.Alpha Beta Alpha to Host Spring Banquet Celebrating Library Science Students
The Alpha Beta Alpha (ABA) Library Science Fraternity will host its annual Spring Banquet 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 250 MSU. The event celebrates undergraduate library science students and includes new member inductions, guest speakers and opportunities for networking with librarians, authors and historians from the Rohrbach Library and surrounding community. The banquet marks the continued revitalization of the long-standing ABA chapter, which was established at Kutztown University in 1957. Dr. Sarah Conway will attend and offer remarks on behalf of the College of Education. -

Students should take a minute to review their MyKU accounts for any recently added charges or changes in their aid that may have caused a hold or late fee. Holds for non-payment block registration for Fall 2026 and diplomas may block transcripts for some students. Students access: MyKU > Student Account card > Payment Dashboard. Summer 2026 registration opened mid-March. Summer Costs are published online as well as page dedicated to summer session payment information. Charges will be reflected in MyKU every few days until mid-April, when they will show daily. Due dates are assigned based on the date the registration occurs.Summer 2026 Payment Plans are Open
Payment Plans are set up on the Payment Dashboard. A four-payment plan is open through Thursday, April 9. On Friday, April 10, there will be a three-payment plan option and then a two-payment plan. Sign up now using costs posted on the summer pages above. Even if you are not yet enrolled in Summer, you can still set up a payment plan for anticipated costs.Fall 2026 Payment Plans Open March 28
While Fall 2026 bills are prepared in mid-July; payment plans are opening for Fall 2026. Signing up now gets you the longest and best plan we offer. You can use the online estimated costs worksheet to help determine the amount for the payment plan. The plan you create today can easily be adjusted once you get the actual costs in July. If you are a Pennsylvania resident and may qualify for PA state grant and scholarship programs, you must have your 2026-27 FAFSA completed and filed prior to the state deadline of Friday, May 1. If you do not have it completed prior to this Pennsylvania state deadline, you may lose the state grant/scholarship opportunities offered through the state. Do not delay filing.Fall 2026 Additional Loans
Should you have a financial gap after all financial aid grants and scholarships have been awarded, you may consider applying for additional loans. There are alternative options for bridging the financial gap such as Direct PLUS Loan and Private Loans. These loans are credit based and are not guaranteed to be approved. We recommend applying for these loans in the month of June each year to ensure ample processing time by the Financial Aid Services Office to reflect on your July/August billing statement.Financial Literacy Event

These dollars expire at the end of the year. If you need additional funds for the rest of the school year, consider Bear Bucks, which will carry over to the fall semester if unused.Bear Bucks Refunds
Students who are graduating or withdrawing from Kutztown University may request a refund of the unused funds in their Bear Bucks account. They can also choose to spend the remaining dollars in the KU Campus Store for alumni gear, clothing or various supplies to prepare for next year. The student will need to complete the “Bear Bucks Account Closure” form and mail it to the KU Card Office, 107 Academic Forum, or they can request one from their KU email account by emailing the KU Card Office at kucard@kutztown.edu. There is typically a $10 processing fee. Once the form is approved, the refund will be processed and mailed to the home address on your MyKU account within two to four weeks.Financial Guide for First Time Students Online

Students can add Authorized Users at any time. Doing so allows the authorized user to get billing emails and their own access to the student’s payment dashboard. Students can even set themselves up as authorized users using their personal email. They will already receive communications to their KU email. Don’t miss billing notices and risk losing classes for non-payment. Students go to MyKU > Payment Dashboard > Authorized Users to add additional users. -

Meal Plan selection for current, returning students will be available on students' mykuhousing portal starting Monday, April 14. Students living in suites or traditional halls (spaces without a kitchen in their assignment) are required to have one of our "all you care to eat" meal plans – MyTime Diamond, Platinum or Gold. Students in assignments required to have meal plans, but do not select one, will automatically be assigned the MyTime Dining Platinum Plan. April 13-17 is the annual Greek Week Competition for our Fraternity and Sorority Life organizations. Students compete in a variety of fun competitions all week long, raising money for the National Hazing Prevention Network by competing against each other in various sporting competitions, Trivia Games and ending with Greek Sing in Schaeffer Auditorium. Every Mile Matters: Cross-Country Ride Raises Support for KU Students
KU Foundation Board Member Norman Inkpen ’70, ’22 D.P.D. has begun a 2,900-mile cycling journey across the United States as part of the Epic Cross Country Southern Tier Bike Tour. Starting in San Diego March 7, he’s riding to St. Augustine, Fla., aiming to raise $3 per mile for the Together We’re Golden Endowed Retention Grant. Even better, Norman and his wife, Joy, will match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000. Each mile reflects perseverance, generosity, and belief in education.
