Room Selection Process

All students, both new and returning, will have the opportunity to select their own housing assignments if they completed the housing process as outlined below. To learn more about Transfer Student On-Campus Living, click here.

If you believe you may qualify for a residency requirement exemption, you can learn more about that process on our Residency Requirement page.

Returning Student Room Selection Process (Fall 2024)

The room selection process is completed in four steps for returning students, to be completed early in the preceding spring semester. The returning student housing process steps include:

1. Completion of housing application, including housing license agreement and $100 non-refundable housing processing fee payment.

2. Completion of My College Roomie profile.

3. Roommate matching with roommate pair or group in My College Roomie software.

4. Room selection with matched roommate group in your MyKUHousing account.

Incoming Student Room Selection Process (FAll 2024)

The room selection process is completed in a five steps for incoming students, to be completed in the preceding spring semester. The new student housing process steps include:

1. Complete Advanced Registration Deposit to Kutztown University.

2. Completion of My College Roomie profile (My College Roomie will open on April 1st).

3. Complete Special Interest Housing application, if desired.

4. Roommate matching with roommate pair in My College Roomie software.

5. Room selection with matched roommate pair in your MyKUHousing account.

The My College Roomie Software

Within MCR, students can create a profile; complete a compatibility questionnaire; view potential roommate matches; and reach out to communicate with matches. MCR is a tool for students. If there happens to be an opening in your room, which most often occurs when a student leaves the university or changes their assignment, housing staff do not use profiles or questionnaires to match students when filling vacancies. If you have a vacancy in your room, it could be filled at any time.

Returning Student Complete Group Room Selection

This process is for groups of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 students who wish to reside together. Groups of students must be mutually matched as roommates in My College Roomie prior to the roommate matching deadline.

All students who wish to be assigned a room selection time must be a member of a COMPLETED group of either 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 students, depending on preferred housing preference.

Please note, we are encouraging all first-year students to form groups of five or six students. Our two and four-person suites and apartments are always the most popular to be selected in room selection. Since room selection times are determined by the group’s number of COMPLETED credits, we encourage our first-year students to have a plan in the event that they cannot select housing to accommodate a group of 4.

All members of the group must be of the same sex, as recognized by KU, to make their group complete.

Students eligible for this round of room selection will receive their selection time, via e-mail, after the roommate matching process closes. Selection will be held after Spring Break through their MyKUHousing account. Selection times are prioritized based on the group's total completed credits.

    Returning Student Individual Room Selection

This process is for current students who do not participate successfully in selecting an assignment during Group Room Selection or are not part of a complete group. These students will be able to select into remaining available beds through MyKUHousing by group/individual appointment times for online selection with an anticipated selection occurring between April 2nd - 4th, 2023.
Current students who have completed the housing application process but do not select an assignment during one of the above processes AND students required to live on campus but did not complete the application process will be assigned by the Housing Office. Auto-assignments are typically completed by the middle of April. Students will receive an e-mail notification when assignments have been completed.

    2. Finding A Roommate

All roommate matching will be done in My College Roomie. Students received their log-in information for My College Roomie to their KU e-mail. Usernames are the same as students' KU username (without the @live.kutztown.edu portion), and passwords are unique to each individual.

      Roommate Matching Steps:

      1. Log-In to My College Roomie, create individual profile, AND answer the questionnaire. Both portions of the questionnaire, the question and its extremes, as well as the comfort zone slider, must be completed.

      2. Review your matches, become friends with potential roommate matches, and begin communicating with fellow students who you believe may be a good match for you. You must first be Friends with someone before being able to send them a Roommate Request. Your friend will need to accept your Friend Request in order for you to be able to unlock Friendship privileges with that user.

      3. Once you are sure you know the student you wish to live with, you can send them a Roommate Request in multiple ways. One way is via the Home Page: Within your lists of Matches, Friends, New, and Recently Viewed, you can send a Roommate Request simply by clicking the "Roommate Request" button next to each user. The second way to send a friend request is within a User's Profile: You can add them as a Roommate simply by clicking the "Roommate Request" button within their profile.
