Erin Kraal

Dr. Erin Kraal works on Martian Surface Processes and Sediment Transport in Local Watersheds.  Jenae Shoup (KU undergraduate physics major) and Dr. Kraal are working on modeling and mapping a set of small landslides in a channel on Mars.

Using numerical modeling and topographical profiles, Jenae determined the flow properties.  KU Environmental Chemistry faculty, Dr. Julie Palkendo, and Dr. Kraal works with students to understand sediment transport, soil chemistry, and pollutant transport in our local community.  KU STEM Majors Jacob Bailey, Amanda Nowicki, Kelly Morgano, and Ashely Richardson explored the relationship between stream sediment and heavy metal transport.  Amanda expanded this work by examining soil chemistry in the boundaries of conventionally and organically farmed fields.
