Graduation Steps for Master's Programs

In an attempt to make graduation steps clearer, the Secondary Education Department has created the following guidelines to help you with the process.

Step 1: Consult with your advisor

If you are planning to complete your degree this semester, please be in contact to discuss final coursework.

Step 2: Transfer all credits

If you have studied at another institution and will be using graduate credits earned at that institution, make sure to transfer those credits officially to the university.

Step 3: Complete the "Application for Candidacy" form on MyKU

Follow the instructions provided by the Registrar's Office to apply for candidacy status on MyKU. It is a tool for you to plan your degree completion process. We need to be absolutely clear - you cannot graduate without filling out this online form. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Lori Lentz ( or Tami Shirk ( in the Registrar's Office.

Step 4: Submit your portfolio

Portfolios are created in Watermark/TaskStream and submitted electronically and will be evaluated by members of the graduate faculty. Please submit your finished portfolio to D2L under Secondary Education Graduate Student Portfolios and notify Dr. Walsh Coates that the portfolio is ready for evaluation. The portfolio is digital, and you can obtain the required program through the Dean's Office. Please contact or call 610-683-4356 to get a subscription to TaskStream or get support.

* Masters of Teaching students do not need to complete this step.
