Rolland Green Named KU Employee of the Month for October 2025
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Congratulations to Rolland Green, custodian, Facilities, on being named Kutztown University Employee of the Month for October 2025.
Green's nomination came from two individuals, which can be read below.
Cheryl Lord, KU Foundation
"The KU Foundation held a tailgate in the Student Recreation Center for more than 280 attendees Saturday, Oct. 18. First and foremost, Rolland is always smiling and pleasant when I see him in the MSU, but he had agreed to cover this event in the Rec Center. One of our attendees, an elderly man, became ill and could not walk. Rolland was immediately ready to help (his help was genuine). We knew we had to get this man downstairs, so Rolland retrieved an office chair from a downstairs office and brought it up so we could get the elderly man downstairs in the elevator. During all this, Rolland was kind, courteous and again, genuine. Even after the man had left the building, Rolland checked with others that were with him to see if there was anything he could do for them. While I am not sure this type of activity was in Rolland's job description, it didn't deter him from helping when help was needed. He didn't flinch or think twice, just jumped in."
Will Meeker, Facilities
"Rolland applied for a custodial position at KU a few years ago. He didn't have any significant cleaning experience on his resume, but Paul Mackewicz and I decided to take a chance on him. I am so glad we did. Rolland has been assigned to the MSU since he started at KU, and what a difference he has made. When Rolland started, we were having a difficult time finding custodial applicants. Cleaning in the MSU was being patched together with a combination of temporary workers and overtime. The MSU is one of the highest use, most diverse and busiest buildings on campus. It contains a dining facility, a bookstore and hosts numerous events. It is one of our most challenging buildings to maintain. Rolland has played a key role in stabilizing our cleaning in the building. He cleans at a very high level and the people in the building are very happy with his efforts. Beyond his cleaning, he has a delightful personality. He has established himself as a role model for other members of our team and for our students. His loyalty to KU is admirable.
During the weekend of Oct. 18, Rolland volunteered to work overtime for the Homecoming football game. There was a medical incident where a wheelchair was necessary; however, a chair was not available. Rolland leapt into action and found a solution. He ran to the first floor of the Student Recreation Center and grabbed an office chair with wheels on it. The person was placed in the chair, and they were able to be taken to receive medical attention. The hosts of the tailgating event and the spouse of the person were extremely grateful for Rolland's quick thinking and willingness to help. His quick response ensured the patient received prompt medical attention, and as a result, he quickly recovered.
Rolland deserves this award for many reasons, but this most recent event is the exclamation point on the difference he has made in the relatively short time he has been here. I can't think of a more worthy candidate."
