KU to Celebrate National Veterans Awareness Week with Events and Tributes

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University celebrates National Veterans Awareness Week, Nov. 1-11. Led by the Office of Military and Veterans Services, the week-long celebration will feature a variety of free events, tributes, fundraisers, workshops, ceremonies, discounts, breakfast and more. Some events will be open to the public with student veterans and military-affiliated students, faculty and staff all encouraged to attend.

The week will kick off with the Veteran Alumni Breakfast 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 262 MSU. Following breakfast, KU will face East Stroudsburg University for the Military Appreciation Football Game, noon, Andre Reed Stadium. Veteran and military members are provided free admission at the ticket booth. The Kutztown Pipe Band will open the game with "America the Beautiful," while Army ROTC Color Guard posts the colors. There will be an award for Veteran Alumni with the most spirit; a military-inspired Mime entertainment, and Avalanche will be dressed in his military gear.

The Small Business Administration recognizes the annual National Veterans Small Business Week Nov. 3-7, as a time to celebrate and empower military service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members and military spouse entrepreneurs. Resources, training and tools are provided for business startups.

The KU Campus Store will offer a 40% discount on apparel and gifts Monday, Nov. 3 to Tuesday, Nov. 11. The discount is offered to any KU military, veteran and military-affiliated students, faculty and staff. KU students using military benefits can present their KU ID to the cashier to receive the discount. Any KU military and veteran alumni can contact the Office of Military and Veterans Services to receive a discount code; all others must provide proof of military service through a military ID card, DD214 or driver's license with a Veteran identifier.

Pannel discussion with top-tier military veteran business leaders and professionals followed by networking and a veteran resource showcase.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

Celebrating Women Veterans

10 a.m. to 1 p.m., MSU Lobby

Join us in conversation about influential U.S. Women Veterans while enjoying cake and other refreshments.

Military Movie Night

7 p.m., 135 Rickenbach

Join us in viewing a military-themed film, sponsored by the Student Veterans Association (SVA). Attendees are welcome to participate in an open forum after with KU military-affiliated students.

Thursday, Nov. 6

Military and Veteran Celebration Bash

11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 250 MSU

Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to celebrate the service of our students over lunch and participate in activities supporting the military community. Attendees are invited to make cards for deployed service members, play Military Bingo and make jewelry for military families.

Tuesday, Nov. 11

Flag Raising Ceramony

Raising 7:45 a.m.; lowering 4:30 p.m., Schaeffer Auditorium Courtyard.

Join the Student Veterans Association and ROTC during their annual flag raising and lowering ceremony to honor Veterans Day.

Saturday, Nov. 15

Lehigh Valley 5k Ruck N' Walk

8-11 a.m., Bicentennial Park
