First African American Professor at Kutztown

The first African American professor at Kutztown State College was Mr. James R. Smith, according to the university yearbook. Smith arrived at Kutztown in 1962 and served in the social studies department from 1962-64.

VPA Art Majors Win Awards

The Healing Through The Arts Juried Art Show concluded its judging this week, announcing six winners from Kutztown University. The artworks are currently on display at the Allentown Art Museum until Sunday, March 31. Elizabeth Frost won fourth place for her digital painting "The Sleepy Time Bear." Six Community Awards were also presented to Patricia Defelice, Monica Dull, Arlo Lao, Madaline Malitas and Neo Safouan. Assistant Professor Dannell MacIlwraith and Instructor Sarah Sterner-Hausknecht submitted the student artwork for the competition.

The Healthy U 2024 Participation Window is Now Open

For employees that participate with the State System Employee Benefits — APSCUF, non-represented, OPEIU (nurses), POA (PASSHE officers association)​, SPFPA (security/police) â€” the window to participate in the 2024 Healthy U program is open. You and your enrolled spouse, if applicable, have from Monday, Jan. 1, to Friday, May 31, to complete the Health Assessment on the MyHighmark website (or smartphone application) to be rewarded with the lowest healthcare premium rate beginning in July 2024. If you were a previous Highmark member, you can use that user ID and password to log into MyHighmark. If you have not registered with Highmark in the past, you will need to register first.

2024 UGRC Faculty Mentorship Awards

The Undergraduate Research and Creativity (UGRC) Faculty Mentorship Awards recognized its first recipients in Spring 2021 and continue the tradition of honoring our faculty who collaborate closely with students on research and creative projects. Please see the Faculty Mentorship Award page on the UGRC website for a list of past recipients and the current guidelines. The purpose of this announcement is twofold: to invite faculty members to join the awards selection committee (please complete this willingness to serve form if you would like to join us); to announce that the call for candidates is now open. Please complete the nomination form. The submission deadline is Friday, March 1. The awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 17 as part of KU Inspires, A Celebration of Research and Creativity.
