Students Studied Abroad in Belize During Winter Session

Thirteen students and two faculty (Drs. Habeck and Stone) spent two weeks in Central America exploring the cultural and biological diversity of Belize. Some highlights of the trip included seeing several endangered species in their natural habitat, celebrating New Year's Eve with a Mayan community, visiting a Mayan archeological site, snorkeling along the second-largest barrier reef in the world, preparing and enjoying a traditional Garifuna feast, participating in a Garifuna drum and dance circle and learning about Belizian conservation efforts and sustainable cacao agroforestry. Oh, and they hiked an average of eight miles per day during the two-week trip. If you want to know who participated in this or previous trips, just yell "howler" anywhere on campus and they will respond "monkey".
