KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University’s Department of Sport Management announced its achievement of a seven-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). Accreditation by COSMA is a stellar achievement and a statement of the program’s continued commitment to quality and excellence in sport management education based on accreditation standards.

KU’s sport management program was the first in eastern Pennsylvania to be granted accreditation by COSMA in 2015. The department’s mission is to provide students with exceptional educational opportunities in order to prepare students to be productive professionals who have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to make critical, beneficial, professional and personal decisions.

In line with COSMA standards, the KU sport management program curriculum is designed to promote practical experiential learning to help students connect the theory to the practice of the sport industry. Through comprehensive coursework and mandatory internships, students receive hands-on learning opportunities and field experiences. Student internship experiences are a critical component of professional preparation that often leads to networking and employment opportunities.

“The Department of Sport Management would like to extend our appreciation to the students, alumni, administration and support staff for all the support provided to help lead the process to success”, said Dr. Soojin Kim, professor and department chair of the program. “This was a team effort and would not have been possible without our group working here. The review committee was very complimentary of our program, which speaks to the great people that we have working here at Kutztown.”

COSMA is a specialized accrediting body whose purpose is to promote and recognize excellence in sport management education worldwide in colleges and universities at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels through specialized accreditation. Programs, students, employers, and the general public all benefit from the external verification of quality provided through COSMA's accreditation process. They also benefit from the process of continuous quality improvement that is encouraged by COSMA's developmental approach to promoting excellence in sport management education.
