Hosie Named KU Employee of the Month for April 2022

Hosie accepting award from President

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Congratulations to Devin Hosie, senior systems engineer, Information Technology, on being named Kutztown University Employee of the Month for April 2022.

Hosie’s nomination from Michael Creel, system administrator, Information Technology, reads:

“Kutztown University exists in two worlds, the physical world that we can see and touch, and the digital world, where information is both the platform and the media. In the KU Office of Information Technology, there is one team member who stands with a foot in both worlds and carries the mission of the university on his shoulders with dogged determination. Devin Hosie is the beating heart of Information Technology at Kutztown University. Devin not only attained his degree at Kutztown, but over the course of his career, worked his way from a student worker to his current role as a systems administrator and engineer. Over that time, he has touched and shaped every system and process that Kutztown IT uses.

Devin has acted as the cornerstone of the department, not only interpreting the strategic vision of the leadership team in a functional manner, but by providing sound tactical leadership and advice on all topics due to the depth and breadth of his knowledge, both institutional and technological. However, Devin is not only called upon to make recommendations, his time is also in demand for hands-on support and intervention on major projects within the department.

Despite the nature of his role as a nexus of Tier 3 IT requests, Devin is always available to lend assistance within the department, and because of his expert level understanding of the environment, always identifies an appropriate course of action. Because of the nature of Devin’s personality and the level of success he consistently achieves, he has shouldered more and more responsibility over time.

Devin sacrifices so much of his own time to think about the needs of the university and its’ constituents. He is always working at some level, despite encouraging others to maintain a healthy work-life balance. His persistent and unwavering drive, despite the level of burden he has taken on, is simultaneously an inspiration and a cause for concern.

Devin carries a great deal of responsibility on his shoulders in the pursuit of the university’s mission, and I believe he deserves to be recognized for the level of his work, the contributions he has made to the university and the sacrifices he has made in his personal life to do so.

It is taken as common knowledge in the business world that nobody is irreplaceable – in this case, that could not be further from the truth. For KU, Devin Hosie is irreplaceable."
