Oswald Named KU Employee of the Month for December 2021

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Congratulations to Merlene Oswald, secretary, Modern Language, on being named Kutztown University Employee of the Month for December 2021.

Oswald's nomination from Lynn Kutch, Modern Languages, reads:

"This academic year, I am serving as interim chair for the Department of Modern Language Studies. Merlene has been indispensable in not only guiding me through established policies and procedures, but also working with me diligently and willingly on facilitating new department initiatives.

Her reaction time to a request must be a record. Every day, she displays an enthusiasm for her work and a professionalism that is certainly expected, but I am guessing not as consistently carried out as with Merlene. Of particular note are her organizational skills. It doesn't matter what question I have or what information I am seeking, minutes later, Merlene has produced a carefully curated file folder that contains exactly that data.

She shows an equal level of professionalism and willingness to help to all students who walk through her door, whether they are looking for a mask to wear in class or have questions about MLS major and minor programs. She has made my transition year that much smoother, and I am grateful to have her."

Nominations are collected from students, faculty and staff, and the Employee of the Month is selected by the Human Resources Advisory Council. A winner will be selected each month, and out of the 12 monthly winners one will be selected as Employee of the Year. The Employee of the Month will receive a plaque, reserved parking and a $100 monetary gift sponsored by President Hawkinson.
