Anything But A Leaf: Care in Action at KU
Care at Kutztown University is more than a value; it's a daily practice in the College of Education (COE). Special Education faculty, Dr. Casey Horvath and Dr. Marissa Wallace, launched a joyful creativity challenge called “Anything but a…” Students begin with half of an image, this semester, a leaf, and turn it into anything but that leaf. The colorful results now brighten our halls and spark conversation as people walk by and admire the creativity. As students color and create, the activity builds community, reduces stress and reminds us that people see the world differently. It models care in simple, intentional ways, offering varied outlets for expression, making space for fun and validating many ways of thinking and learning, which are all key ingredients for well‑being and belonging. What makes the effort even more special is the participation across the COE: faculty and staff, including members of our custodial team, have joined the fun. The activity is open to all; the collaborative displays are a visible reminder that when we care for one another, we create evidence of a strong, inclusive community, one that truly puts students first (this year's theme for the COE). It shows just how much our faculty and staff care because here, you are cared for.

CEL Assignment Reboot Workshop
In this workshop, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, Rohrbach Library, we'll explore how to redesign assignments in response to AI, using the "I Can. I Care. I Matter." mindset from Teaching with AI to help students demonstrate competence, build meaningful connections and see the relevance of their learning. Along the way, we'll draw on inclusive design strategies to support clarity, motivation and authentic student work in an increasingly AI-influenced environment. You'll have dedicated time to revise your own assignments with practical tools and examples you can apply immediately. Please bring one or two current class assignments. You'll leave with updated versions that are more aligned with your goals, your students and the realities of AI in teaching and learning. Reserve your spot online. Lunch will be provided. CEL Events
